Mary Jane and Mix&Match

February 28, 2011

I just had a Hebrew midterm, folks. It’s over. That’s pretty much all I have to say about it.

So, as I am always up on the latest news and important world issues, here’s our topic for today: Was James Franco high last night? Seriously. Did he get nervous about his big Oscar hosting responsibilities and decide that some chronic (what?!) would calm his jitters? He couldn’t open his eyes. He didn’t seem to know what was happening. He read that teleprompter like a robot. Anne Hathaway kept having to shriek and giggle to bring some life to the event. I don’t know — what did you guys think?

Well, I’ve been reading this great blog called Kendi Everyday. She dresses really cute, and you can get great ideas for how to take the clothes you have and remix them. One of the things she does is the 30 for 30 challenge. You’re supposed to pick 30 items of clothing (shirts, pants, skirts, shoes, dresses) and use those 30 pieces to create outfits for the next 30 days (you can’t wear the exact same mix of clothes for that month!). You can only use those items, so you have to be really creative and learn how to mix and match your clothes in ways you haven’t before. I kind of think it would be fun to do — I could post my outfits on the bloggy here for you all to critique. But I also kind of don’t want to do it cause it scers me.

On the plus side, it would force me to be organized and to be a consistent blogger. I’d also probably flex my creative muscles and see my closet in a whole new way. I’m sure it would help me to realize that I have a lot of good outfits and don’t need to go shopping nearly as much as I do.

But on the other hand, I have trouble blogging once a month — could I really do it every day for a month? You guys, I’m really lazy. Also, 30 different outfits out of the same 30 pieces sounds daunting — I don’t think I’m that clever or creative. Most of my current outfits include sweatpants. I live alone and I have a crappy camera, so I’m not sure how I’d get my pics in each day. It might be awkward if I force my upstairs neighbors to snap shots while I pose. Also, my jeans are tight. Do we really need pictorial evidence of that?

Anyway, it’s something I’m considering, but I’m not convinced. What do you all think?

In other news, I went to my friend Nehemiah’s birthday party this weekend. He is five. He graciously offered to let me take a balloon home as a party favor. It was fun times — Nehemiah’s really into trains, so his Mom Kim and his aunt Bekah made him the awesomest train cake ever. It had all kinds of different cars in different colors. There were gummy bear passengers and m&m cargo and Oreo wheels. It was super cool. Nehemiah thought so too — he welled up with tears of joy when he saw it! Nehemiah has a three-year-old brother named Elijah. Elijah was at the party with us the entire time, playing with the balloons and streamers, eyeing the train cake, watching Nehemiah open his presents — you know, normal birthday-type things. When people came in, they would wish Nehemiah a happy birthday, like most people do. So, when we got to cake-cutting time, we all sang “Happy Birthday” to Nehemiah. Elijah, who was sitting there with us, looked over at Nehemiah and declared, “I did not know it was your birthday!” Suddenly the balloons and gifts and streamers made sense! Elijah Sherlock Holmes. My favorite moment of the day.

OK, folks. I gots to get to chapel pretty quick here. Things to discuss:

* James Franco’s drug problem.

* Your willingness or lack of willingness to suffer through daily photos of me in ill-matched outfits.

  1. Since I pretty much live in sweats too, I would love to see 30 different ways to make that creative. By all means! Go for it and post pics! For now, I am putting on my black sweats and heading out for a run in 19 degree weather. My pants are tight too. I am blaming it on the cold and the need for extra “thickness” shall we say to stay warm!

I ABSOLUTELY think you should do the 30 for 30 challenge! I think I might even do it!

  3. Go for it! I read her blog everyday as well and i’m always too chicken to try…maybe if you give it a whirl, I’ll be able to take the dive.

Pictures of your daily outfits are an absolute MUST! Plus if you start to get bored or are forced to wear weird ugly combos because of the challenge, you can quit! Do it!

Also JF was most def high. I would have been a much better emcee than him!

Thanks, ladies! Maybe we should all try it.

Lottie, you would have been a much more enthusiastic emcee.

Also, what is everyone else thinking? I know you’re reading — leave me a comment! 🙂

I think, to make it less scary, you could do the project for a month, and then post about it the next month. That way, if you’re on day 13, and you decide to quit, no one will be the wiser.

But, you should still do it. I would, but I am not even sure I have 30 articles of clothing! (Or, that is my excuse for not doing it)

Man… I must have just been in just the right mood. That Elijah story CRACKED ME UP. The more I thought of the scene, the more I could not stop laughing. Tears welling up in my eyes from laughter goodness.
Wow. My word. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

Jenni, that’s how I felt when it happened. Kim and I died laughing. It was so great.

  9. […] Other News: I think I’m going to do that 30 for 30 challenge, guys! I’m nervous. I’m not sure when I will start it because I need to carefully pick […]
